Brown Belt — Kata and Pre-Shodan Refinement

Study Nage-no-kata and refine all previous techniques toward black belt standard.

## Brown Belt — Kata and Pre-Shodan Refinement

### Nage-no-kata (Forms of Throwing)
The formal kata required for shodan grading. It contains 15 throws grouped in five sets of three:
1. Te-waza (hand throws): Uki-otoshi, Seoi-nage, Kata-guruma
2. Koshi-waza (hip throws): Uki-goshi, Harai-goshi, Tsurikomi-goshi
3. Ashi-waza (foot/leg throws): Okuri-ashi-barai, Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi, Uchi-mata
4. Ma-sutemi-waza (rear sacrifice): Tomoe-nage, Ura-nage, Sumi-gaeshi
5. Yoko-sutemi-waza (side sacrifice): Yoko-gake, Yoko-guruma, Uki-waza

Each throw is performed with uke and tori in defined roles. Both roles must be learned.

### Uchi-mata (Inner Thigh Throw)
One of judo's most versatile and powerful techniques:
1. Enter like seoi-nage — deep step, hips low.
2. Swing your leg up between uke's legs, striking the inner thigh.
3. Combine with a forward and rotating pull.

### The Shodan Standard
For black belt grading, a judoka must typically:
- Demonstrate nage-no-kata with a partner.
- Perform randori with multiple partners.
- Show understanding of katame-waza (groundwork).
- Demonstrate character: respect, patience, and responsibility.

The belt colour changes. The learning does not stop.
