Green Belt
Green Belt — Sparring Principles (Ippon Kumite)
Introduce controlled sparring, ma-ai (distancing), and timing concepts.
The green belt represents a growing plant — technique is taking root.
### Ma-ai (Distancing)
Proper distance means your opponent must take one full step to reach you. If they can hit you without stepping, you are too close. If they must take two steps, you cannot counter effectively.
### Ippon Kumite (One-Step Sparring)
- Partner A announces and executes a single attack.
- Partner B blocks and delivers one counter, then returns to ready stance.
- This is controlled — contact is light or absent.
### Zanshin (Remaining Mind)
After your counter, do not relax immediately. Maintain posture, eye contact, and readiness. Zanshin prevents being caught by a follow-up.
### Mawashi-geri (Roundhouse Kick)
1. Chamber: raise knee, rotate hip outward.
2. Strike: snap the leg around, contacting with the instep or ball of foot.
3. Return: retract before stepping down.
Target: mid-level (chudan) or head-level (jodan) depending on rank and dojo rules.
### Heian Nidan (Kata 2)
Introduces back stance (kokutsu-dachi) and knife-hand block (shuto-uke). 26 movements; kiai on 11 and 26.
